Foster/CRR-Host Home Families
Upon graduation from DTAC’s residential program, some of our clients are unable to return home for a variety of reasons. DTAC employs foster parents that are consistent, trustworthy, and caring. Placement duration varies from short-term stays to extended home life involvement that allows adolescents to successfully complete high school. Potential foster parents are also chosen very carefully by the Specialized Foster Care Agency (SFCA) staff and are matched with youth informally at first to gradually acclimate the youth to a new family environment. Final placement occurs after the client and foster family have achieved mutual compatibility. All foster families selected by DTAC and SFCA must successfully complete an initial orientation program plus monthly training facilitated by DTA/SFCA Staff. In addition, as part of their pre-placement training, families receive pertinent information regarding the following:
- Their potential foster child’s history
- Behavioral patterns
- Specific needs
Families are also afforded ample opportunity to discuss any issues with staff prior to placement or anytime thereafter. The DTAC team is available to foster parents 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Internship Opportunities
DTAC provides internship and practicum educational field placements for students from various regional colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. In addition, DTAC is an accredited field practicum agency affiliated with two highly competitive schools of graduate study. Through an internship experience with DTAC, you’ll learn a great deal about working with children and adolescents with mental health issues, as well as children who have been in the child welfare systems and juvenile justice systems.
